AUK - Rationale

AUK (AGN UK) is a professional community of UK astrophysicists whose research involves active galactic nuclei (AGN).

Our aim is to provide a common space, and a series of resources, to promote better communication and cross-collaboration across the divisions that exist between different sub-disciplines in our field. Our aim is to create an inclusive, thriving community that encompasses every academic researcher in the UK, at any career stage, whose research is linked to AGN, even tangentially. From tidal disruption events and timing to galaxy clusters, galaxy evolution, and accretion models, jetted or non-jetted, low- or high-redshift, theory or observations, we want to hear everyone's perspective!

Through AUK we will work on:

  • Raising awareness of current work across the community.
  • Bridging the gaps between sub-fields.
  • Promoting the work of early-career researchers.
  • Strengthening collaboration and cross-pollination across the community.
  • Improving science outcomes and impact.

AUK is currently being led by Beatriz Mingo, Sophie Koudmani, Martin Bourne (all at the University of Hertfordshire), and Carolin Villforth (University of Bath).
